We are in the process of installing our first residence hall MAC lab. As a
compact, urban campus, I have a number of concerns about physical security
of the systems. Can others on the list tell me:
1. What is the likliehood of theft/vandalism given that no infrastructure
is in place in Residence Life to support the lab?
2. What physical security devices you use/recommend?
I am particularly interested in security, since I would like to open our
main PC/MAC lab on an unmonitored 7x24 basis, but we have had several
thefts even during monitored hours. I have seen a fiber optic-based system
that triggers an alarm when the optical link is compromised. Can anyone
speak to those devices (and give me names of vendors)?
Thanks.
