All supported game consoles today either have Wi-Fi built-in or accept a USB Wi-Fi NIC. Wired is no longer needed for game consoles. You can get wireless NOCs for desktop computers too.
If we encounter a wireless NIC issue, we have a few wireless NOCs we loan out for short times to prove the issue and give the user time to purchase a good replacement.

I would be hesitant to wifi only dorms. At the minimum I would install one jack per room. We have also gone to smaller AP's in every other room or even every room depending on the size of rooms. We use Ruckus h510's and since we moved to this paradigm wireless complaints have become a thing of the past. In addition they include 4 ports per AP. We also still have a strong demand for wired gaming consoles. Retrofitting afterwards would cost you a lot more.
