While we have not been transitioning to wifi-only buildings, I will say that we have been purchasing cheaper used networking equipment instead of brand new switches for student housing locations.  The utilization of the wired infrastructure by students just does not warrant the cost of new equipment.  Of course, this does not take into consieration the cost of pulling wire, but it is always cheaper to pull it during construction than afterwards, should it be needed in the future for one reason or another.

I do like the idea of setting up lounges with the ability to accomodate gaming.
