Jim,

If you don=E2=80=99t mind sharing what cable did you install? CommScope, P=
anduit
etc.? Also what warranty, if any, was included with that installation?

Brian

-----------------------------------------
Our specifications say "Berktek, General Cable, or equal". I know I have
seen boxes of CommScope on some jobs. A lot of it is plenum rated. We have
a warranty from the contractor of about a year on all materials and labor
in the project. We do not believe that a long warranty is particularly
useful or enforceable. Our specs require 100 percent testing with a Fluke
Cat6 meter that verifies all the loss and crosstalk parameters. Better than
a warranty is diligence in monitoring the work of the contractors during
installation. So, for example, our specs require velcro straps rather than
tie wraps to hold cable bundles together. Tie wraps if cinched too tight
can distort the cable and change its characteristics. But contractors seem
to be addicted to tie wraps.

I would be interested to hear any stories about post construction defect
remediation that others have experienced. Here's one of our stories:

In rewiring a building, the contractor wrote the jack numbers on the face
plates with a sharpie pen. When the machine-printed labels were applied on
top of the sharpie ink, the and sharpie ink came out of the plastic and
bled through to the front of the labels. The ink migration was a slow
process, so it didn't show up right away. The contractor came back and
relabeled the entire building.
