I agree with Bud. I wish our department could provide our student employees
with tshirts as I've seen in other places. That, at least, gives the
impression that they're official IMHO.
The only thing that's different for my student employees is that they're
allowed to wear shirts with no collars no matter the day of the week.
It's been necessary for me to specifically ban shorts and hats
specifically. I've warned them that sandals/flip-flops will be banned if I
see junky ones being worn or yucky feet/toes. Here's what my team's written
internal policy states as a dress code, "Your appearance should be neat and
professional at all time. While casual attire (even jeans) is acceptable,
please avoid printed t-shifts (except UAH shirts), ill-fitting clothing,
and hats. Anyone having meetings with executives/directors/deans is
expected to be in business attire that day."
