*It's time to "SPRING" into action and register for the 2016 Student
Technology Conference at UNLV!*
We are less than 100 days from the 2016 STC Conference! Here in Las Vegas
it's a balmy 70 degrees as we enjoy our Spring Break slowdown before the
last mad rush of the school year. To get you excited about your upcoming
visit we thought we should share some fun local facts about Las Vegas.
- Las Vegas has the largest Ferris Wheel in the world. Named the "High
Roller" it is 550 feet tall with 2000 LED rotating the color of wheel a=
s
it spins.
- Vegas Vic, the enormous neon cowboy that towers over Fremont Street,
is the world's largest mechanical neon sign.
- Las Vegas is the brightest place on Earth when looked at from outer
space.
- Most people mispronounce Nevada. Its =E2=80=9CNev-AD-a,=E2=80=9D and =
do not be
surprised if you are corrected if you call is =E2=80=9CNev-AH-da.=E2=80=
=9D
- 25 Miles outside of Las Vegas in Boulder City, gambling is illegal.
Boulder City, established by the Federal Government for the workers of
Hoover Dam, the government ban gambling in the town due to the Great
Depression. In 1960, when the town was incorporated it was decided to
continue the ban on gambling.
- It cost $51 a hour to run the light beam on top of the Luxor Hotel and
Casino.
- Las Vegas gets less than 25 days of rainfall a year. Most of the rain
falls during Las Vegas "monsoon season" in July - August. During "monso=
on
season" Las Vegas can have up to 3 inches of rain in a 90 minute period
with no warning.
- More than 41 million people visit Las Vegas each year.
