No.

No, we=E2=80=99ve had IP Tv since 2004 although we have made a major =
change to it in the last year.

> What were some of the major obstacles after the change?

We had only had cable tv in lounges, and switched to IP TV available to =
all students for a fee initially, and now we have switched to IP TV only =
in lounges, primarily due to low subscribership.

> How much notice did you give the housing residents and the campus =
(academic, athletic, other) departments prior to the change?

I don=E2=80=99t know what we did in 2004, but in the last year we =
didn=E2=80=99t do any notification.=20

> =20

most? =20

We=E2=80=99ve had a few students upset that they can=E2=80=99t get cable =
in their rooms anymore, but for the most part everyone is using =
Hulu/Netflix/other streaming accounts anyway.

> =20

provide this service?

We already had ethernet to all of the rooms and lounges, and TVs in the =
lounges. I think initially some switches may have had to be reconfigured =
to allow multicast or upgraded if they weren=E2=80=99t capable of =
handling the traffic (but that was 12 years ago). Some students chose =
to purchase wired switches to split the signal from the wall to their =
IPTV box and the computer. We had to distribute IPTV boxes to all the =
lounges and secure them. For some TVs we had to buy some adapter cables =
but nothing major.

> =20
> What additional hardware did the student (resident) need to connect to =
his/her TV to receive IPTV and was this hardware provided by a =
department affiliated with the campus if not provided by your =
department?

We had set top boxes provided by our provider that were initially =
purchased, but later leased from the provider on a semester to semester =
basis. Throughout the 11 years we had the service we went through 4 =
different models of set top boxes. The boxes were handed out and =
returned at our Tech Desk at the beginning and end of every semester. =
We stored many of them for several weeks in advance of the pickup period =
and at the end of the return period, and we always had a few in stock in =
case a replacement was necessary. So far, the Roku boxes we are using =
now in lounges and public areas seem to be more reliable than the Amino =
boxes we were using previously. =20

> =20
> Do you use a campus provided username/password or other authentication =
in order to limit service us to only faculty, staff and students?

We used their BUID numbers to activate the boxes for students, which was =
also what was used to charge them for the content fee/STB lease. Any =
box in use by a live in staff member or department was activated by us.

> =20
> Did anyone see a spike in Bandwidth usage once the campus moved to =
IPTV, if so, how much additional Bandwidth is being purchased?

We used multicast so we didn=E2=80=99t see any significant spike in =
traffic. Our current system (Philo) uses unicast, but the overall usage =
is much more contained and I am not aware of any significant spike =
recently. We have upgraded our bandwidth for other reasons in the past =
12 years.
