Good morning everyone (at least here on the left coast)!
We've been excitedly watching the presentation proposals come in for this y=
ear's Student Technology Conference, and this is just a friendly reminder t=
o keep thinking about a topic near and dear to your heart that you think wo=
uld make a great presentation at UNLV. Also, don't forget that the early b=
ird discount of $100 ends tomorrow, February 19th, so jump on that now! Go=
to http://resnetstc.org/2016/ for all the details.
For information on proposal submissions and to submit a proposal, visit
https://sites.google.com/a/resnetinc.org/stc2016/home
(If you have submitted presentation proposals in the past, this is a differ=
ent process than RSPM.)
Presentations are loosely divided into themes. The 2016 program themes are:
* Leadership and Management - Leading your team, developing training, draft=
ing policy, and collecting data. Sessions in this track focus on administra=
tive and decision making topics. Topics may include: Data collection, repor=
t generation, training, hiring and management, understanding employees, cus=
tomer service, organizational structure, and processes and procedures.
* Network Technology - WiFi, NAC, bandwidth management, and other connectiv=
ity and network services. Sessions in this track include a heavy networking=
focus. These may be highly technical or policy based sessions. Topics may =
include: wireless networking, client support of a network, network access c=
ontrol, traffic and bandwidth control, network security, and network rules =
and policies.
* Support Services and Cool Tools - Tips from the trenches: tools and strat=
egies that make supporting technology easier. Sessions in this track focus =
on the things that make technical support easier, from one colleague to ano=
ther. This may include software solutions, diagnosis tools, tracking system=
s, processes and procedures, wikis and knowledge base systems, policies, fe=
edback systems, and strategic planning. What have you done really well that=
you want to share with someone else in your position?
* Current Computing Technology - Virtualization, cloud solutions, software-=
as-a-service, software development, mobile devices and more! Sessions in th=
is track focus on technology solutions like the ones listed above. This tra=
ck can also discuss the policies and culture change that these items may fo=
rce in your organization.
* Emerging Technologies - The future is now! Are you and your institution o=
n the bleeding edge, implementing something so new few (if any) have tried =
it? Share your experiences with those who will have to follow in your foots=
teps, letting us benefit from the knowledge you gained while blazing that t=
rail.
Session lengths and types will also vary to best accommodate the presentati=
on topic and the style the presenter prefers:
* Short Lecture - 30 minute session, including questions
* Long Lecture - 60 minute session, including questions
* Structured Discussion - 60 minute session, proponent will serve as modera=
tor
* Panel Discussion - 60 minute session, proponent will be responsible for p=
ulling together a group presentation from different institutions. Post on t=
he listserv to gather participants!
* Birds Of a Feather (BoF) - An informal conversation during mealtimes. Can=
be done ad-hoc, but having a planned BoF will attract participants who pla=
n out their time.
Proposals received by February 29th (leap year!) will be decided on by mid-=
March, so start thinking of proposals, and feel free to post your ideas on =
the listserv. Others may be able to help you shape your idea and form it i=
nto a session. If you are thinking of hosting a panel, the listserv is a gr=
eat place to find additional presenters to join you. If you've never prese=
nted before, never fear! The Program Committee would be happy to assist yo=
u with any presentation questions you may have.
If you have any questions about submitting a proposal for the 2016 ResNet S=
tudent Technology Conference, please let me know!
Thanks,
Matthew Walker
