St. Bonaventure removed all phone lines to our student dorms approximately 7 years ago. We initially offered to activate the analog line in their room for a fee to help with the transition. We stopped offering that 3 or 4 years ago when no one was requesting it. At most we had 1 or 2 requests the first year or two. We've never had a complaint on this but we also explained to our students that we were using the funds that we saved on the old phones to bump up or bandwidth. We also removed cable TV this past fall with very little issue. Again, we explained that the savings incurred was put back into more bandwidth for all students. Those that still wanted to have cable in their rooms could do so by working directly with Time Warner. I believe we recorded just over 100 of these requests in the first semester and we anticipate this to drop off in time as well.

We (Indiana State University) have also removed phones in nearly all residence halls, with the exception of the family housing. In the other dorms we have one phone line per floor, mostly for emergency purposes.
