I've been pulled in to a rather vague project involving digital media servi=
ce for the University. Essentially, people have voiced that we need a bett=
er system(s) for handling digital media. I think the current sore spot is =
in streaming video, hosting it, delivering it, granting permissions, sharin=
g, etc. We are currently using some aging X servers and an apple SAN. The=
charge also mentioned that any kind of digital media handling should be lo=
oked at too so that includes documents, wikis, blogs.. all the stuff that t=
hose apple servers do now that are getting old and unreliable.
I've been asked to look at Google Education, Digital Commons, and MediaSoft
I am also looking at MediaSite and Wowza.
If anyone has any experience with any of these products/services, please le=
t me know. Any other thoughts and opinions are appreciated as well.
