Hi all
My name is Mark Tearle and I am the Student Computing person here at Currie
Hall. Currie Hall is one of the six residential colleges affiliated
with the University of Western Australia, and is located in Perth,
Australia. Now for my questions....
Printing:
We are intending putting a laser printer in one of our student labs and
wondering how to manage costs for it given that it is an unsupervised
lab. Suggestions have been coin mechanisms and such, how do other
resnet people do it? (Info about vendors would be useful too)
Software Auditing:
Here at the University of Western Australia we have recently been
audited for licence compliance on our software. One of my major worries
before we begin to install networking per pillow for our students is
what to do about the software on the machines that students own. Since
these machines will be connected to our network this may also make us
liable to prosecution, how do you others manage this? Do you not worry
about it at all, ignore and just make the student responsible for
packets they receive/send over the network, or not connect them at all
if they have unlicensed software on their machines?
Hubs/Concentrators:
What protocols do people filter? eg. If you do not want your students
running say Netware between their machines.
Thanks in advance
Yours
Mark
