We are currently planning a 10BaseT ethernet in our largest residence hall.
Since this building has a pair of towers, we plan to extend an ethernet
fiber backbone in each tower. In the basement of the building, we were going
to use a router to attach both ethernets to the building token ring backbone.

What we are trying to decide is whether or not we need to be thinking about
segmenting. There are a potential of 1100 connections in this building. We
are told to expect about 30% of the rooms will have enabled connections.
What we don't know is what the utilization rate will be. This building also
has 2 labs.

Was there a large turnout for requests for connections? Were these machines
used frequently? Did it impact the campus backbone traffic? Was it possible
to determine the utilization? Does the lab add or detract from the usage?
