Okay, so last Sunday I think it was, I posted a mostly-favorable reply to
the person who asked about Asante ethernet repeaters. I said we were really
happy with them, but mentioned an annoying bug I was experiencing regarding
their version 1.4 SNMP agent.

Well, a couple of hours after I posted that, I got mail from Clint Bogard
at Asante, who wanted to know more details about the problem. I bundled up
my explanation and some sample output demonstrating the problem to him, and
he replied that he'd give it to an engineer to look at. This was Monday.

So like the next day, Tuesday, I hear back from them that the bug has been
fixed in version 1.5 of the 2072 software, and that it's available by
anonymous FTP. I downloaded it and stuck it on my /tftpboot directory, and
during the next test time commanded the offending repeaters to load the 1.5
software over the network and burn it into their flash memory. Now the
repeaters return their port statistics tables via SNMP correctly. There are
no remaining SNMP agent bugs that I'm aware of at the moment.

I have to say, it's not often you can report a software bug to a mailing
list on Sunday and have the fix on Tuesday. So I'm still a happy Asante
customer.
