Our experience at UC Santa Cruz is very similar to Steve Morytko's.
We have been using the 1012's for a while (12-port with SNMP) and
reached critical mass (four hubs worth) in a few locations at the
time the 2072's came out. We had a problem with the LED's
on the 10BASE-T modules: they were numbered backwards. New
downloadable code along with a board modification fixed that. The
fixup process was handled very well: our reps came out on site on
Friday and brought back the boards on Tuesday all done. They
weren't installed yet, so missing one production day was no sweat.
Applying the new flash image was easily done with the management
software provided. It would have been doable, but cumbersome
without. (But the SW is bundled in the deal, so what the heck).
We now have five chassis installed, two of which are full. We are
using the two net feature in four of the five chassis. We are
using the FOIRL modules and 10BASE-T modules. The software
which accompanies the higher-ed deal works well on my 386 20MHz PC
and is helpful in troubleshooting. Tabular data is available via
this interface, whatever bugs may exist. We plan on continued use
of this product because of the combination of price, features, tech
support, and reliability.
Count me as another happy Asante customer.
Disclaimer: I do have two free T-shirts from them, so I'm biased.
