I, as well, am on Asante's higher ed. mailing list. None of the Asante
mailings that I've received have been on resnet; all have been on their
own list, and it's usually no more than 4-5 messages/month.
As for other vendors actually sending ads to resnet, I must agree with
most of what's been said. While I may well be interested in what
Farallon and other vendors have to offer, it's certainly off-topic here.
I would not, however, object to simple meta-ads such as Roy suggests
here, simply saying "we're here; if you want promotional material e-mail
us." This might be slightly off-topic too, but would be much less
intrusive.
ObResnet: Has anyone out there networked their residential _labs_ (as
opposed to rooms)? Any pros or cons to offer? We have one complex that
has fiber to it, since Food Service needed access to the backbone, so we
are considering networking at least that complex's offices and its lab.
