New York AG, Facebook, etc. announce c-porn "hash value" project

Of course, despite its presumably laudable motives, this will end up
being primarily a political stunt.  Just a couple of the many reasons why:

 - Even sophisticated hash value algorithms can be defeated with some
   effort at image manipulation.  Simpler algorithms can be trivially
   defeated.

 - Only people naive enough to post such images "in the clear" on
   the participating sites would be vulnerable to such checks.  Even
   mandates for scanning of e-mail could be defeated through simple
   encryption.
