I'm pretty sure I could count on one hand how many times I've sent
job-related items to any of my lists, but I'd like to give this
listing a personal endorsement, because it's really very important.
One way or another, I've interacted with quite a few of the folks at
Google who deal with privacy-related issues. There is not a single
instance where I found them to be anything other than utterly
dedicated to trying to find practical, forward-looking paths through
the twisty maze of incredibly complex issues that involve privacy for
vast numbers of persons at global scale.
It is an immensely complicated, multifaceted, and multidisciplinary
area, and anyone who insists that there are truly simple solutions is
either living in the past through rose-tinted glasses, otherwise out
of touch with the reality of these issues, or being purposely
misleading. Navigating privacy issues as optimally as possible is one
of the crucial challenges of the century, and while it's impossible
for Google or anyone else to do this all in a way that can satisfy
everyone, I just can't emphasize enough how important roles like this
are -- not just for Google's users, but to all of us, everywhere, on
the Internet and off. If you feel that you meet the qualifications or
equivalents, you really want to make a difference, and are in one of
the listed cities for this job (Mountain View [Googleplex], London,
Kirkland, NYC, or Zurich), I'd personally urge you to consider this
seriously.
