One more update on the French ISP who was blocking ads

It's been noted that one mechanism that this ISP might have used at
the (company provided) modem/router level -- that could have affected
SSL pages in some situations as well as non-SSL pages -- would be to
tamper with DNS resolving for common ad delivery networks, in a manner
that would prevent access to ads being pulled into pages as individual
URLs within the SSL (or non-SSL) pages themselves. Obviously this
would only function in situations where separate URLs were used to
access those ad networks (a very common technique). If ads were
already embedded within the context of a single SSL-delivered page,
they would not be subject to alteration or blocking by an ISP via this
mechanism. It could easily be argued that any such tampering with DNS
resolving by an ISP, especially by default, is a serious violation of
Net Neutrality principles in and of itself.
