NBC cuts tribute to terrorism from Olympic Opening Ceremonies

During the portion of the performance that was not broadcast in the
U.S., the BBC announcer asks the audience to observe a moment of
silence. "The excitement of that moment in Singapore seven years ago
when England won the games was tempered the next day with sorrow from
the events of July 7th that year," says the BBC announcer. "A wall of
remembrance for those no longer here to share in this event."

"Our program is tailored for the U.S. television audience. It's a
credit to [opening ceremony producer] Danny Boyle that it required so
little editing," [NBC replies]

Thought experiment: How would the U.S. have reacted if the BBC cut
a 9/11 tribute from U.S. originated programming? Hmm?
Meanwhile, a new Olympic event apparenty is: "Who can file the fastest
YouTube takedowns" -- with the Olympic Committee, EMI Music, and
possibly your Uncle Joe pulling down every clip that touches on the
Olympics from yesterday. One can only hope that homes and businesses
along Olympic Blvd. here in L.A. (named for the original L.A. Olympics
in 1932, in fact) won't be subjected to legal action as well.
