Google releases essentially unredacted version of FCC report on Google
Wi-Fi scanning

Google has released an essentially unredacted (except for some names)
version of the FCC report on Google's Wi-Fi scanning. The FCC's own
release version was rather significantly redacted. As I suggested two
years ago in:

"Highly Illogical": The Hysteria Over Google's Wi-Fi Scanning
( http://j.mp/9680wb [Lauren's Blog] )

there appears to be general agreement that procedural issues, not any
nefarious intent, were the fundamental cause of Google's collecting
fragmentary *unencrypted* Wi-Fi data (as can anyone else with everyday
computers and software). I have placed a copy of the Google report
release at:

for your perusal.
