legislation to boost the nation's computer defenses."

I am deeply suspicious of and concerned about such theatrics,
especially when taking place behind closed doors. Attempting to scare
Senators into handing key controls of the Internet over to the
government based on tenuous but lucrative reasoning by the "cyberwar
industry" is bad enough. But we know full well that such mock
demonstrations usually are (to use the vernacular) "rigged" for
optimum emotional impact, rather than for a realistic portrayal of
true risks and options. These kinds of demonstrations are straight
from the playbook of past warmongers like General Curtis LeMay. They
should be viewed with extreme skepticism.
