Trapped in robocars
Another issue is riders (handicapped or not) trapped in robocars when
something goes wrong. Cases like cars stranded in isolated locations,
people attacking the cars or blocking them off -- all sorts of issues
that a human driver can deal with but a remote operator is helpless
to deal with other than calling authorities to eventually show up, often
too late. Also, apparently little known fact -- it seems Waymo remote
operators can NOT drive the car out of a problematic situation, they only
have sets of options they can choose from to try get the car's AI to
solve the problem. And if can't -- riders are stranded, and told to
use their phone to call for help. -L
