AI and Gasoline
Large Language Model Generative AI -- as being deployed by the Big
Tech Billionaires -- is reminiscent of how tetraethyl lead was added
to gasoline starting in the early 20th century to improve internal
combustion engine performance, leading to an estimated hundreds of
millions of persons harmed in the succeeding years until lead was
phased out starting in the early 1970s.
Alternatives to this form of lead for this purpose were known at the
time when it was introduced, as were the dangers -- which immediately
began affecting workers and researchers working with it. But it was
chosen over alternatives for profit reasons.
Now we see Big Tech LLM AI being deployed in much the same way.
Massive polluting data centers destroying communities, causing power
and water shortages, air and noise pollution, all to provide AI SLOP
for applications that nobody really needs and everyone could live
without. All this with only one goal in mind -- addict users to this
garbage so they'll ultimately be forced to pay for it.
Lead in gasoline being forced into our lungs or AI being stuffed down
our throats. Two different kinds of technology -- but very much the
same kind of corporate mindset. Profits over people -- ethics can go
to Hell.
