Google says you can now change your Gmail address (but actually, you
always could!)

Google announced that Gmail users can now change their Gmail email
name once a year.  Mail will continue to be delivered to the old
address or addresses as well.

Actually, this has always been possible. Just create an additional
account with a different Gmail address and forward everything from
that account to the original one.
