Reports of exploding pagers in Lebanon
There are reports of (apparently a particular model) of pagers used by
Hezbollah "exploding" around Lebanon. Reports say three people killed
and many injured. Mainstream media is reporting this but details are
rather inconsistent. There is speculation that an Israeli cyberattack
is causing the lithium batteries to overheat, and/or that the pagers
were tampered with somewhere in the supply chain. Note that lithium
batteries usually don't actually "explode" per se but can burn very
hot and cause injuries under various conditions, especially if shorted
out in a charged condition. Still too early to really understand what
is going on. -L
