Sundar is thrilled, but Google Search AI Overview answers continue to suck
About half of the Google Search AI Overview answers I see related to
topics I know about are either completely or partly incorrect.
Staggeringly bad odds of getting accurate information. Of course if
you don't already know the topic, you wouldn't have a way to judge if
the answers are correct or not -- and most people aren't going to take
the time to check. After all, why check if the GOOGLE BRAIN claims it
already gave you the answer, despite the fine print that says, "Yeah,
this might be wrong, so it's all on you!"
Google's revenues naturally are up since AI Search in particular is
sucking the Internet dry of information. Presumably when Google AI has
sucked in every byte of every site that it can get its crawly hands
on, all those sites can just die and Google can say, "That's all we
know!"
