"Democrats said that Republicans were protecting the interests
of the cable and phone company giants that are the dominant
providers of broadband Internet service to American households.
Those companies generally oppose the F.C.C. order, because they
believe they need to be able to direct traffic on their
networks as they see fit. Republicans countered by accusing
Democrats of protecting big technology companies, like Google,
Amazon and Netflix, that have become successful because of the
lack of Internet regulation but which now want to protect their
turf from new competitors."

No, what net neutrality is all about is making sure that new
competitors have a chance to become, perhaps, the next Google, Amazon,
or Netflix, and that dominant ISPs aren't able to forever favor their
own content over the content of outside competitors.
How can the GOP be so incredibly wrong-headed on this? Just follow
the money from the dominant ISPs' lobbyists into the GOP coffers. It
vastly swamps the pro-consumer, pro-net neutrality lobbying.
GOP in bed with the dominant ISPs? As Dr. Strangelove would say,
"Easy to understand!"
