Administrivia: All AOL addresses may be removed from this mailing list
After years of fighting with AOL's bizarre and unresponsive dispute
resolution system, I am strongly considering dropping all AOL subscribers
(and across my lists, that's a significant number of people) from all
of my mailing lists.
AOL's policy of suddenly blocking (without warning) inbound email even
for IP addresses and domains with good reputations (even according to
AOL's own tools!) has become intolerable.
Even worse, AOL's own system encourages subscribers to hit the "spam
abuse" button as a shortcut to bothering to follow normal list
unsubscription procedures when they decide to leave a list, even
though the list material isn't spam and was explicitly subscribed by
the users.
Obviously, AOL subscribers will not see this message that you are reading,
since they are currently blocked by AOL. However, I have two requests
for those of you wise enough not to be dealing with AOL email.
1) If you happen to know anyone on these lists who is an AOL
subscriber, please urge them to unsubscribe, then resubscribe from
a decent Web-based email system at least, such as Gmail. For that
matter, even if they aren't on any of my lists, urge them to stop
using AOL email.
2) If perchance you know of an actual *human being* in the AOL
postmaster hierarchy, assuming that there are any of course, I'd
appreciate your asking them to get in touch with me ASAP. I don't
want to end up having to "punish" AOL subs due to AOL's own
neglect, and perhaps this situation can still be saved.
