Many people "are rightfully scared of it," [Google's] Neven
said. "In particular, women say, 'Oh my God. Imagine this guy
takes a picture of me in a bar, and then he knows my address
just because somewhere on the Web there is an association of my
address with my photo.' That's a scary thought. So I think
there is merit in finding a good route that makes the power of
this technology available in a good way."

My main concern with this sort of technology in general (not
necessarily with the Google implementation as I understand it at this
point) would not be with individuals being able to control their own
profiles' associations with their own related photos -- that part is
easy to make opt-in within the bounds of a specific system.
But avoiding *third-party* abuse of such technologies -- abuse
possibly enabled by the leveraging of independently collected photos
and identifying information, without the explicit consent of the
individuals involved -- strikes me as a much more difficult issue
(though I can think of some technologically interesting potential
avenues to attack this problem).
