Attempts to compare airport body scanner radiation with eating bananas

Is that a body scanner in your pocket or are you just glad to
see me?
In case you're wondering how bananas got dragged into this, the
radiation reference is related to bananas' relatively high potassium
content, which carries a natural radioactive isotope form in low
concentrations.
More to the point, most of the scanner proponents refuse to
significantly address the key issues of radiation concentration in the
skin, and the very real question as to whether or not the scanners
actually work *properly* at all times and only deliver the promised
x-ray dosages. We've seen recent examples of hospital radiation
equipment delivering even deadly overdoses due to various problems --
and that's in a clean environment with trained operators -- certainly
not a description of airport terminals.
