In the grand tradition of accidental brilliance, Stephanie Kwolek=E2=80=99s=
name shines, much like her creation, Kevlar, a fiber five times stronger t=
han steel yet mercifully more flexible. Born in 1923 in New Kensington, Pen=
nsylvania, Kwolek envisioned herself in a pristine white medical coat, not =

A chemistry degree led her to DuPont, where in 1965, she stumbled upon a sc=

me an unintentional yet life-saving legacy, though Kwolek, ever modest, pre=
ferred to describe herself as a problem-solver rather than a hero.
Her story is a testament to the power of curiosity and perseverance, provin=
g that world-changing discoveries often emerge from unexpected places (or, =
in this case, a beaker of cloudy polymer soup). So, the next time you see a=
