The research literature will be synthesized and presented to provide an overview of those elements that continue to influence student retention and academic performance, particularly among minority student populations within higher education (e.g., racial climate, financial challenges, faculty pedagogy, peer-to-peer collaboration, and support services). Suggested methods and strategies will be presented as to how colleges and universities can be proactive in improving student persistence and success rates on their respective campuses.
