One word reason: dining
I agree 100%, and further I would say it should be a former MIT
/undergrad/. Grad students don't count. It's mean, but it's true. The
more administrators we have that don't understand or value what makes MIT
different from our "peers", the more likely we are to lose those special
things and become just another university, or worse, and "ivy league"
school.
MIT is quirky and insane, and sometimes IHTFP, but the rest of the time I
think it's pretty damn amazing.
