The UA is looking for interested and dedicated students to represent MIT's
interests in the *Kendall Square Advisory Committee*. If you or any of your
constituents are interested in working with the City of Cambridge to improve
Kendall Square, please respond to ua-nomcomm@mit.edu by *11:59 p.m. Friday,
November 5. *
*Preference will be given to sophomores and juniors, and we request that all
applicants be in the Cambridge area for the next 12-18 months.* This means
that students studying abroad or traveling over the summer will not be given
preference.

*Kendall Square Advisory Committee Seeks Members*

The City of Cambridge is seeking volunteers to serve on the newly created
Kendall Square Advisory Committee. The Committee will advise city staff and
a team of consultants developing roadway, sidewalk, lighting, open space and
urban design improvements in Kendall Square. Residents, workers, business
owners and students who actively use Kendall Square are encouraged to apply.
It is anticipated that the Committee will meet every other month over the
next 9 to 12 months to develop an infrastructure master plan for the
KendallSquare area, as well as detailed plans for Main Street between
Broadway and
Ames Street, which is slated to be fully reconstructed in 2011 / 2012. As
part of this effort, the Committee will be tasked with reviewing the
function of all modes of travel including pedestrian, bicycle, transit and
vehicular, and making recommendations for facilities for each mode, surface
materials, lighting, tree planting / green spaces, as well as evaluating the
existing open spaces and making recommendations for improvements.
