Hi, everyone:

Yesterday afternoon, I met with Dean Colombo about dining, speaking to
Senate's perspective on the issue and its key areas of concern about how th=
e
HDAG recommendation process has progressed. I indicated that, to the best o=
f
my knowledge, there was not widespread support for the proposed plan from
the residents of house dining dorms and that, in fact, there were several
indicators of disapproval. The key take-away points from the meeting were a=
s
follows:

   - The RFP process is moving forward, and the RFP will be released with
the recommendations approved by HDAG (note: I did not ask about the
   time-frame)
   - The contract with the vendor selected under the terms of the RFP and
bid process will be for five (5) years
   - Dean Colombo did not believe there were any moving "caps" in place tha=
t
might limit the number of students capable of moving out of a particular
dorm even if there was space for them elsewhere
   - HDAG and Dean Colombo are willing to listen to students' concerns
   - Since the process is moving forward, Dean Colombo suggested that my
next step as Speaker should be to meet with Chancellor Clay

On the last point, I would appreciate guidance from the assembly. I attende=
d
yesterday's meeting to present 42 UAS E1.1 and supporting perspective to
Dean Colombo because the legislation passed[1] without a signature/official
endorsement from the UA President[2]. In order for this legislation to be
adequately reviewed and considered by the administration, I believe that
meeting with Chancellor Clay would be helpful; however, as the
representative of Senate, I would yield to strong objections. My intent
would be to present E1.1 and discuss the reasoning behind the legislation a=
s
I have heard it from the assembly. Our meeting could occur as soon as
Monday, so please let me know immediately if you have any concerns.

If you have questions or suggestions, please feel free to drop by my office
hours on Sunday from 8:00pm-10:00pm in the UA Office. I am also open to
meeting one-on-one throughout the weekend.

[1] on 20-Oct-2010 via Article VIII, Section A, Paragraph (1)(b)(iii) of th=
e
UA Constitution
[2] Though, as you have heard, Exec quickly took action on the legislation.

Thanks,
Jont=E9 Craighead
