Dear Senate,
NomComm has chosen a nominee for the new MIT Online Study Group and has
contacted the chair of that group with the name of this nominee. Because of
the swift time line of the new study group (which has already met several
times and continues to meet weekly, without an undergrad rep) and imminent
deadline for recommendations (end of finals in December), we thought it was
pertinent to submit Daniel Hawkins as our nominee immediately during the two
week recess of Senate. Hawkins was approved by NomComm (which includes three
officers) and Vrajesh. This process is in accordance with the Senate Bylaws,
Article VI, Section C, Paragraph 1.
NomComm will present Daniel Hawkins as the nominee to this group in Senate
on Monday for your approval. Please send any questions about the candidate
to ua-nomcomm-chairs@mit.edu in the intervening time, and I will make sure
you receive a response from the Nominations Committee.
We are *also* looking for three to four students to populate a parallel
study group on this issue. Hawkins will be the only undergrad rep to the
faculty study group, but there are opportunities for more students to
participate on the student study group.
