Dear Ryan,
Sorry I sent this email without contacting you first- I felt that
replying quickly was prudent to stem off what could have been a nasty string
of emails in reply.
Generally, it is not appropriate to email other student group
mailing lists on behalf of The Tech asking for something that is
specifically related to what you do for The Tech. Ua-senate gets forwarded
to ua-senate-listeners (or something like that), which is why I received
that email. While you should certainly always introduce yourself as someone
from The Tech Opinion if you are ever emailing people to set up an
interview, request information, or anything to that effect, it's not good
policy to do so otherwise. It's important that the community see The Tech as
an independent entity that supports itself- people will get very irritated
very quickly if it looks like the UA is providing a special level of
privilege or support to one student group- when that group is TT, the effect
is magnified.
In brief, please refrain from sending emails of this kind in the
future. I applaud you for your enthusiasm and effort, but asking the Senate
if they would be willing to provide you with a pass to see Obama reflects
poorly on The Tech- it makes us look incompetent or worse. Ethan should be
in touch with you about trying to get press passes to see Obama directly
through The Tech.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this or what I'm
talking about.
Best,
Joe

Hey guys ,
Does the senate have any passes to see Obama speak? If no one else has
claimed them, I am definitely interested because I would like to write an
article for the tech ( I do opinion). Let me know!
