I'm one of the representatives chosen by Senate to serve on the Committee on=

d have served on other UA committees since then.

I have a class that conflicts with the meeting tonight, but since I am accou=
ntable to Senate I encourage you to email or zephyr me any questions you mig=
ht have about my specific participation.

Best,
- catherio

Hello all,

It is time for the next Senate meeting. I have not received many
agenda items so tonights meeting will be focused on discussing the
big issues at hand. The current agenda is attached and an updated
one will be <a href=3D"http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/43UAS/5/43UAS5_Agend=
a.pdf">here.

The largest issue is the upcoming proposed changes to the structure
of student government. Allan Miramonti will be sending out a
proposed draft constitution from the Committee on Restructuring.
This draft constitution will follow the outline that Allan presented
to Senate.

The primary question Senate should address tonight is what will be
the time-line for the consideration of this draft constitution. All
changes to the constitution must wait at least 1 meeting and no more
than 3 meetings, or else they must be resubmitted.

I plan to structure the debate on the subject as follows. The first
20 minutes will be a general discussion on restructuring. This will
allow Senate to ask clarification questions on the presented
constitution. If there were any concerns about the Committee on
Restructuring, then they can be raised. I also hope the current
structure of the UA and the proposed structure of the UA can be
compared, so that everyone can see the effects of any proposed
changes.

After these 20 minutes, Senate will enter Parliamentary Mode again
and I'll open the floor to motions. Depending on the course of the
discussion I see 2 motions. Either the proposed amendments can be
postponed definitely until a specific meeting or they can be
postponed indefinitely which would kill the bill until it was
reconsidered.

UA Exec. has been discussing advising at MIT and focusing primarily
on freshman advising. I think Senate should consider this issue and
what the focus of the UA should be on the subject of advising. I
hope that in the discussion people will raise some aspects of
advising that they feel the UA should address.

Lastly, there was a recent Public Forum on Orientation. Several
members of the UA, including myself, went to this forum. I'd like to
have those members present their impressions of the forum. We can
also provide recommendations for the next Forum.

Also, give a welcome to Matt Sooknah the new Senator for ILGs to
Senate.

See you tonight,
