DUE recently began a review of our strategic plan and would like to engag=
e
the UA in the process. The current plan
http://due.mit.edu/about-due/strategic-plan was developed in 2006 when Dan
Hastings became Dean. At that time, we identified six strategic themes
which have been the basis of much of our work. We are in the early stages
of the review process in which the DUE leadership team is considering what
our priorities should be moving forward. The process will involve:
=B7 Assessing progress on the six strategic themes and reformulate
some or all of them
=B7 Identifying key events and trends likely to affect our future w=
ork
on behalf of MIT education
=B7 Exploring new themes, big ideas and opportunities where DUE has=
an
important role to play
=B7 Aligning priorities with a refreshed vision that builds on our
strengths
At this point, we have developed a document which articulates our
currently thinking relative to the existing strategic themes as well as
introduces a couple new themes that are under consideration. This document
was sent to the Chancellor a couple days ago for feedback. At the same time=
,
we are reaching out to faculty and DUE staff to get their perspective as
well.
Getting student input, especially from student leaders who have an
understanding of DUE=92s role in the Institute, is very important. *We woul=

I for a lunchtime discussion on Thursday, May 5, from 12-1pm in
33-206.* Elizabeth is the Senior Associate Dean in DUE who works
closely with Dean
Hastings on strategic initiatives.
Specifically, we will send you the review document and ask you to give us
feedback to questions such as:
=B7 From a student perspective, what MIT internal and external tren=
ds,
events or forces are most critical for us to keep in mind as we update our
plan?
=B7 What are the student priorities that DUE should consider as we
update our plan?
=B7 When you look at our strategic themes, what is should be added?
