Quick update: Monday evening, Senate spent time discussing the problems with
the UA and compiling a list. Additionally, Senate considered the three
options that were considered for a committee and selected the student
committee with a faculty facilitator.
As discussed on Sunday, considerations of the committee will include the
following:
- meeting with faculty and administrators to gather feedback on the UA
restructuring
- engaging directly with students to ask about what they see as the role of
their student government
- coming up with alternative proposals for the restructuring of student
government
- soliciting restructuring proposals from outside sources
- communicating with students about competing proposals
- deciding how to select and implement a final proposal
Professor Tom Kochan, the Chair of the Faculty, has kindly agreed to serve
as the facilitator, and has indicated that he is happy to begin meeting next
week to get things started off before the spring term ends. Senate also
selected its delegates (Catherine Olsson and Daniel Hawkins). My
understanding is that IFC and Panhel have already been thinking about or
have selected their reps. The next step would be for DormCon to select its
(3) delegates - Dormcon folks, do you think this could happen at the meeting
this Thursday?
Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns.
Best,
Vrajesh
