Hi, everyone:

I hope that you've all been able to enjoy the spring vacation.

At Monday's meeting, Theresa M. Stone, MIT Executive Vice President &
Treasurer will be our first guest speaker. The topic of discussion will be
MIT's Finances and future direction. After Ms. Stone's visit, Steve Kelch
'08, the 38 UAS Speaker of the Senate, will give a brief presentation on th=
e
fundamental challenges the UA faces in representing students at MIT. Steve
is one of our UA alumni mentors, and I am sure you will find him rather
knowledgeable about many aspects of the UA.

Agenda: http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS42/agendas/2011-03-28.pdf

Given the business on the agenda for Monday's meeting, we will take up our
discussion topics first in a time-limited discussion mode. These topics
include the Dining Referendum, Enrollment, Walker Memorial, Kitchen
Renovations, and student opinions on LaVerde's & the Student Center. Again=
,
I encourage everyone to make an effort to prepare for these topics in
advance of the the meeting and to begin discussing these topics on the
mailing lists.

Following our discussion session, we will review the legislation on the
agenda for this week's meeting. All of the bills submitted concern the
structure of the UA. Please do your best read through them in full, and if
necessary, ask your constituents to help you parse the proposals and make a
list pros and cons for each item of business.

Looking past Monday, we will have just one more regular meeting before CPW
and Patriot's Day Weekend. As I mentioned in my previous e-mail, there will
be a Senate Caucus this Saturday designed to help us organize around the
major topics facing students this semester. We will set the agenda for this
Caucus near the end of 42 UAS 14.

Please let me know if you have any questions. My office hours are from
8:00pm-10:00pm in the UA Office on Sunday evening.

Thank you for your time,
Jont=E9 Craighead
