Hi, everyone:

I hope that you are all enjoying your spring break, whether on campus or
elsewhere.

We have a number of important topics to address over the next few weeks, an=
d
I wanted to remind you of the following action items for Senate this week.
Please use the mailing list *now* to start the discussions. *Coming prepare=
d
to Senate will ensure that the rest of this semester's meetings do not
extend into the early morning.*

Keeping it short, as many of you requested:

   - *Results of the Dining Referendum*
      - What should Senate, and the UA's, next steps be on this issue given
      the results?
      - What are the options and who can we engage?
      - Results:
      http://web.mit.edu/elections/current/referendum-results.shtml

      - *Student Engagement Process for Kitchen Renovations*
      - What's the best process for providing the Senior Associate Dean wit=
h
student opinion on how the kitchens in each dorm should be renovated?
      - How can we determine baseline needs and also accommodate the
      specific requests of each dorm?

      - *Re-examining Enrollment*
      - What areas of the Enrollment issue have yet to be addressed?
      - What action should Senate or its committees take on the Fall
      Enrollment reports?
      - Reports (linked in the agenda):
      http://web.mit.edu/ua/senate/UAS42/agendas/2010-12-06.pdf

      - *Student concerns on Walker Renovations
   *
      - Have you determined which aspect(s) of the Walker Memorial issue ar=
e
      important to your constituents?
      - Is the student engagement process being followed sufficient for
      addressing their concerns?

      - *Housing Committee Facilities Review*
      - Have you responded to Daniel's (Housing Chair) e-mail regarding the
      facilities in your dorm?
      - Can you reach out to someone else who might know the dorm's
priorities (e.g. in your dorm government)?

      - *Structure of the UA*
      - Does the UA need to change its structure to better meet the needs o=
f
      undergraduates?
         - If so, what ideas do you have for improvement?
         - If not, how can we better utilize our current structure?
      - Have you spoken with one of the officers about your ideas/opinions?
      - Should we create a committee to review this issue in detail?

      - *Guest Speaker: Terry Stone, *Executive Vice President & Treasurer
   - Are you familiar with the annual Treasurer's Report?
         - Relevant
numbers<http://web.mit.edu/ua/officers/speaker/Public/Excerpts%20from%20the=
%20FY10%20Treasurer%27s%20Report.pdf>;
         Full Report<http://vpf.mit.edu/site/content/download/7658/41219/fi=
le/FY10%20Treasurer%27s%20Report.pdf>
      - As the Executive Vice President, what questions can we ask about
      MIT's direction? As Treasurer?
         - Review the Minutes from 42 UAS
11<https://web.mit.edu/ua/minutes/UAS42/Draft/42UAS11.pdf>(for any
follow ups) and the State of the Institute address: MIT
         News Article <http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2010/soti-2010.html>; =
Tech
         Article <http://tech.mit.edu/V130/N41/stateoftheinstitute.html>

These questions need answers, and it's our job as the representative body o=
f
the undergraduate community to find them. *Between now and Monday, please d=
o
your best to "do your job" and get answers*. You'll hear this at the
meeting, but anything left unresolved will be put down as a topic for a
Senate Caucus next Saturday (2-Apr). At this caucus, breakout groups will b=
e
encouraged to address each topic and present a plan for Senate.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Agenda items will be due at
noon this Saturday, and the agenda will be out on Saturday evening.

Thanks,
Jont=E9 Craighead
