Hi all,
As the UA rep to ISTAB (the IS&T Advisory Board), I'd love to be kept in
the loop about this project.
My understanding of what's happened in the past is: In Fall 2011, the UA VP
for Resource Development (who I think at the time might have been Ben
Shaibu, CCed on this email) asked IS&T for permission to pilot staplers in
3 Athena clusters. The agreement was that IS&T gave the UA permission to
place staplers in the clusters, and in return, the UA had to refill the
staplers on a regular basis and write a report for IS&T at the end of the
pilot. If the report indicated success, IS&T might then take over the
project and pay for, maintain, and refill staplers in all Athena clusters
across campus.
I'm not sure how the pilot turned out, but what I've heard anecdotally is
that for whatever reason (possibly turnover in the UA?), the staplers
stopped being refilled by the UA, and nobody wrote a report for IS&T. Since
there was no report, IS&T did not pursue the project further.
Turner, if you'd like to repeat a similar pilot, I would suggest talking to
Jon (as Leonid already advised) and working out a similar agreement, in
which IS&T agrees to take over the project if the UA pilot is a success. I
think you should also invest more time in learning about what didn't go so
well with the 2011 pilot so that we can avoid making the same mistakes.
