Linux Matlab is now available to students with Red Hat Linux machines running
the IS&T-supported Open AFS client. From my announcement to users:
We are pleased to report that we can now make Matlab on Athena
accessible to students with Red Hat Linux machines running the OpenAFS
client. Please note the following conditions:
. This applies to students only. Faculty and staff users must
continue to purchase licenses for installation on MIT machines
from VSLS Software Distribution
(http://web.mit.edu/is/products/vsls/speceng/matlab.html)
. Please be aware that the Athena Matlab license pool is a limited,
shared resource. Don't leave Matlab or its Toolboxes running for
extended periods of time. Always exit from Matlab to release licenses
when you are not actually using it
. This access may be discontinued with little or no advance notice
if circumstances require it (for example, if it causes the Athena
Matlab license server to run out of licenses)
To run it on a machine where the Open AFS client has been installed (you
will need to authenticate with kinit and aklog or equivalents to get
Kerberos tickets and AFS tokens first):
afslocker matlab
/mit/matlab/arch/i386_linux24/bin/matlab
Alex
PS most other major Athena Third Party software applications available
on Linux (Maple, Mathematica...) are also now accessible through Open AFS
if you launch them in a similar way.
