Octave, a numerical computation package featuring a high level of
Matlab compatibility, is now available in the Matlab locker for
Ultrix, Solarix, AIX, Irix, Linux, and NetBSD/i386. Because I was
unable to build a native NetBSD/i386 version of Octave, you will need
Linux binary compatibility (available only in NetBSD 1.0A, not in 1.0)
to run Octave under NetBSD/i386.
To use Octave, just run the following commands:
add octave
octave
I have Octave compiled to search the Matlab Toolbox (in
/mit/matlab/Matlab4.2/toolbox) for functions. Most of these functions
probably won't work due to incompatibilities in the function call
interfaces of Matlab and Octave, but some of them might.
Bug reports and questions should go to ghudson@mit.edu, as indicated
in /mit/octave/README.
