I've updated Matlab on Athena to release 6.5 for all platforms. I'd
like to make it the default version for the Fall term, but this is yet
uncertain. as we've received it late in the Summer and haven't had
time for extensive testing. Please try it out and let me know if any
components seem to be broken or misconfigured. Appended below is
my announcement to users.

                            Enjoy,

                                   Alex

Matlab 6.5 is available on Athena for all platforms. To run it now, type:

        add matlab
        matlab -ver 6.5

You can read about new features by typing "whatsnew" at the Matlab >> prompt,
or by going to URL
https://web.mit.edu/matlab_v6.5/distrib/help/base/relnotes/relnotes.html

In configuring this release, we are continuing the presentation of the
traditional Matlab interface by default, and are remapping the optional
command-line switches in the same way as we did for Matlab 6.1.0.

As before, if you use the Matlab compiler on Suns, you will most
likely get many compiler warning messages. For the most part these
messages should be harmless. If you prefer to use the older compilers
(which don't issue the warning messages), type:

        add -f sunsoft_v6.1

Before launching Matlab or the Matlab compiler.

This version may become the Athena default version for the Fall, 2002
semester, contingent on testing to be done over the next few weeks. Please
let us know if you encounter significant problems or bugs by writing to
the 3partysw@mit.edu mailing list.
