I've updated the FrameMaker desktop publishing package on Athena to version
7 for Suns.

Consultants: please update the Consult and Thesis templates pointed to
by the link
/mit/frame_v7.0/distrib/sun4x_58/fminit/usenglish/Templates/Contributed.

All: please test this as much as possible in the next few weeks- I'd
like to make it the default by the start of the Fall semester. From my
announcement to users:

FrameMaker 7.0, a major new release, is now available for Athena Suns. The
most noteworthy new feature is the move to XML as basic document format,
with structure editing tools that allows users to interact directly with
the underlying structure tags. Details of the new functionality are listed at
http://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/newfeatures.html. A full online
manual (also accessible from within FrameMaker) is at
https://web.mit.edu/frame_v7.0/distrib/sun4x_58/fminit/usenglish/Help/help.html
(you will need an MIT certificate to access the latter).

As before, on initial use of the WebWorks Publisher add-on, it will
ask you to register (via forms displayed when Netscape is launched).
It appears that ignoring the registration request seems to be
harmless, and it doesn't ask for this again on subsequent use.

This version may become the Athena default for the Fall 2002 semester, but
this is uncertain due to limited testing time. To run it now:

        add frame
        maker -ver 7.0

As before, existing documents converted to the new format will no longer be
accessible in older FrameMaker releases, but there is an option to "Save As"
in the older version formats.

WebWorks Publisher documentation starts from:

https://frame_v7.0/distrib/sun4x_58/webworks/helpdocs/en/wwhelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm

Please send any questions to 3partysw@mit.edu.

                                             Alex
