I have installed the owl zephyr client on Athena for Solaris, Linux
and Irix. You can run it by typing:
add ktools
owl
at the Athena prompt. You can also obtain the sources from
<http://web.mit.edu/ktools>. Do note that when you run owl it will
take over the terminal it is run in. If you wish to quit, type :exit
and hit enter.
Owl is a simple but powerful stand-alone, tty-based zephyr client. It
will run happily without a configuration file, but should you choose
to use one, the description and configuration language is perl.
Additionally owl allows for emacs-style editing of outgoing messages.
Owl has been in regular testing for some time by about 20 users and
should stable enough for everyday use.
A short introduction to using owl is available at
<http://web.mit.edu/ktools/src/owl/doc/intro>. There is also complete
on-line help available by using the 'help' command within owl.
If you would like to receive information about future releases of owl
you can add yourself to the owl-users@mit.edu mailing list by typing:
blanche owl-users -a $USER
at the Athena prompt.
In addition to the owl binary there will also always be an owl-beta
binary available with the latest beta version of owl in testing.
Please report any bugs, comments or suggestions for improvements to
bug-ktools@mit.edu.
