I've updated MATLAB on Athena to 8.3 (R2014a) but not yet made it the
default. From my message to users:
Matlab 8.3 has been installed (they also call it R2014a). Many of the
Toolboxes have been updated (use MATLAB "ver" command for versions)
and a new one has been added (LTE Toolbox).
A set of emacs modes is available in the newemacs/matlab-emacs
subdirectory; see

Release notes are available in the internal help system, or at the
Mathworks Web site:

Known issue: in the internal help browser, printing may not work.
Workaround: use option to open page in browser, and print from the
browser.
To run 8.3 now:
add matlab
matlab -ver 8.3 (terminal window interface)
matlab -ver 8.3 -desktop (Java GUI)
It will be made the default version after the end of the current
semester.
