I have updated the Forte Java development environment on Athena to
release 2.0 (Community Edition) for Sun and Linux and made it the
default. There is online help and tutorials accessible through the
internal help system. To run it, type:

	add forte
	runide

It requires JDK 1.3.0 to run, in the java_v1.3.0 locker. It will create
a directory forte4j_user in your home directory initially populated
with about 680K of files plus whatever you create in developing
projects- you will need at least that much free disk space to run
it. You may have some issues if you already have a forte4j_user
directory from the prior 1.0 release. It would be prudent to save any
important existing files in this directory elsewhere before you start
working with 2.0 in case there are incompatibilites across versions-
we don't currently know of any.

Printing does not currently work and will crash the application on
Suns- we are trying to fix this in the context of general Java problems
we have been experiencing on Suns.

Please send questions/comments to the 3partysw@mit.edu mailing list.
